TLDR: The Loneliness of Running Your Own Business

Running your own business is often lonelier than it looks. Employees are not peers, they depend on you financially, so they rarely challenge your thinking freely. Family absorbs the emotional cost of every decision, so owners often protect them by staying quiet. Friends outside business lack the context to really engage. The result: many owners carry serious decisions with no honest sounding board, and research links this kind of isolation to higher stress, poorer health and weaker decision-making.

The fix is practical, not personal: a peer group of fellow owners, a mentor with no stake in the outcome, or a genuine non-executive relationship that is empowered to challenge you. The key is scheduling contact deliberately rather than hoping it happens, because loneliness in business only resolves when you build something on purpose to prevent it.

Client Testimonial

“Having seen John of Legacy Wills present at a property event, it was clear he had both the breadth of knowledge and experience and also the ability to make a very dry subject both understandable and engaging. That’s a tough call when talking about Wills, Trusts and death. John produced Wills and POA’s for myself and my wife in a timely, effective and reasonable manner. I have subsequently recommended him to numerous colleagues and friends to cut out the jargon and challenges surrounding this critical protection, which is too often deferred or neglected.”
