TLDR: Know your numbers — the free NHS Health Check

The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your heart and circulation for adults aged 40 to 74 in England who have not already been diagnosed with conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease or high blood pressure. You should be invited every five years.

  • It takes about 20 to 30 minutes and usually covers blood pressure, cholesterol, weight and waist, with a ten-year cardiovascular risk score.
  • High blood pressure usually has no symptoms. It is generally considered high at 140/90 or above in a clinic, or 135/85 or above at home.
  • Many pharmacies in England offer free blood pressure checks for eligible over-40s, with no appointment normally needed.
  • Not been invited? Contact your GP practice, or your local council.

Book it like a board meeting. This is not medical advice — speak to your GP about your own results.

Client Testimonial

“Having seen John of Legacy Wills present at a property event, it was clear he had both the breadth of knowledge and experience and also the ability to make a very dry subject both understandable and engaging. That’s a tough call when talking about Wills, Trusts and death. John produced Wills and POA’s for myself and my wife in a timely, effective and reasonable manner. I have subsequently recommended him to numerous colleagues and friends to cut out the jargon and challenges surrounding this critical protection, which is too often deferred or neglected.”
